PassionWellbeingArticle

If you want to draw a crowd, just make an ooey, gooey platter of irresistible ham and cheese sliders.

A recipe that always gets rave reviews, hot ham and cheese sliders are easy to make. Even a novice in the kitchen can whip up a batch of these treats. Make this ham and cheese recipe once, and it will give you a reputation as the best cook in town.

Why Are Ham and Cheese Sliders So Good?

More than just a ham sandwich, these ham and cheese sliders are irresistible because they are a perfect blend of savory and sweet. Salty ham, melted Swiss cheese, soft Hawaiian rolls, and a buttery glaze make these sandwiches a favorite for events ranging from cocktail parties to family dinners.

Because the square Hawaiian rolls are the perfect size for sliders, these ham and cheese sliders are wonderful party fare since they’re small and easy to eat. Other gatherings where ham and cheese sliders would be ideal include tailgate parties, picnics, office lunches, potluck dinners, and wine and cheese parties.

What To Have on Hand

If you have these ingredients on hand, then you can make irresistible ham and cheese sliders. Make sure to keep in mind the FDA’s food safety guidelines for at-home cooking.

Deli Ham

Thinly sliced deli ham makes this recipe fast and easy since the ham is fully cooked. Either Black Forest ham or honey ham is fine, so use your favorite. You can change up the recipe by substituting thinly sliced deli turkey or roast beef.

Swiss Cheese

One of the ingredients that make these ham and cheese sliders irresistible is Swiss cheese. If you don’t enjoy Swiss, use your favorite cheese instead. Pepper Jack, provolone, American, or cheddar would be delicious.

Hawaiian Rolls

You can’t make Hawaiian roll sliders without Hawaiian rolls. These rolls are soft and have a touch of sweetness that makes them perfect for making melty ham and cheese sliders.

Dijon Mustard

Dijon mustard’s distinct flavor is a perfect foil for ham and Swiss cheese, so it’s an essential ingredient for ham and cheese sliders. If you don’t like dijon mustard, don’t worry – you can use spicy brown mustard, yellow mustard, mayonnaise, or aioli instead.

Worcestershire Sauce

You may wonder how Worcestershire sauce figures into ham and cheese sliders. It’s a tangy ingredient in the buttery glaze on these delicious little ham sandwiches. Worcestershire sauce adds a salty, savory taste that, with the sweetness of the Hawaiian rolls, makes for an irresistible sandwich.

Butter

Melt a stick of butter, and you are on your way to making these irresistible ham and cheese sliders. Butter is delicious with sweet Hawaiian rolls.

Minced Onion

Onion gives the glaze over these ham and cheese sliders an extra zip. Mince them finely for best results. Use white, yellow, or purple onion, or try sweet Vidalia onions.

Poppy Seeds

These ham and cheese sliders are topped with poppy seeds for a delicious accent. To give these sliders a different twist, substitute Everything seasoning or sesame seeds.

Hot Ham and Cheese Sliders

Make these Hawaiian roll sliders once and they’ll be your favorite ham and cheese recipe.

  • 1 stick of butter, melted
  • 1 minced onion
  • 3 tablespoons mustard (dijon)
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds or other toppings
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 12 sweet Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 pound of deli ham, thinly sliced
  • Sliced Swiss cheese

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a saucepan, melt butter and add onion, cooking over medium heat until onion is soft. Add mustard, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire sauce and simmer for a few minutes.

In a 9-by-13-inch dish, place the bottoms of Hawaiian rolls and top with a spoonful of the onion mixture. Top with ham, Swiss, and tops of rolls. Spoon the rest of the onion mixture over the top. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes. Uncover and bake until the rolls are golden brown on top. Cut the spaces between the rolls for easy serving and enjoy!

Where’d You Learn To Cook Like That?

Learning to cook can be fun but challenging. Here are a few options and their pros and cons.

Trying New Recipes

If you want to sharpen your cooking skills with recipes like this, you could consult a recipe book or recipe website, but you wouldn’t have a chef helping you along the way. You might not understand all the terminology, either.

Cooking Videos

Watching cooking videos on YouTube, Tiktok, Facebook, or Instagram can show you more about cooking a recipe, but they go so fast that it’s hard to follow the steps. Just like with a recipe in a book or online, you can’t get feedback from a cooking professional on whether you’re doing it right or ask questions in real-time.

In-person Lessons

Cooking alongside a chef is a great way to learn to cook. You can watch a professional at work, get feedback on your efforts, and ask questions along the way. These lessons aren’t always available, though. A professional chef could charge hundreds of dollars per lesson, so this option may not be in everyone’s budget.

Online Lessons by Video

Some learning platforms offer video lessons from chefs via pre-recorded videos. These videos will show you more about cooking, but you won’t be able to ask questions in real-time. Your instructor won’t be able to look at your efforts and give you feedback, either.
